Pediatric Pain Management Program
The Pediatric Pain Management Program at MUSC Children's Hospital is dedicated to creating a "pain free"
environment. Pain often occurs in hospitalized patients as a result of necessary procedures or disease
processes. We believe that children have the right to the best level of pain relief that may safely be
provided. Our philosophy is centered on a holistic approach to pain management including pharmacological
and non-pharmacological interventions. Our goal is to use an interdisciplinary multimodal approach to
pain management to ensure optimum pain control. Our program focuses on age specific interventions to
serve our population and design an individualized plan of care to address needs. The Pediatric Pain
Management Program focuses on patient education, staff education and research to deliver evidence-based
care to our patients. The Pediatric Pain Management Program assists in the coordination of services with
appropriate resource utilization. MUSC's Children's Hospital Pediatric Pain Management Program encompasses
a variety of interdisciplinary pain resources that include: physicians, nursing Staff, pain management
nurse, pharmacists, child life specialists, psychiatric liaison nurse, and physical therapists.
