Bowel Regimen
- Start with 150 cc of saline and 50 cc of Fleets or up to 250cc of saline and 50 cc of Fleets (1/2 of an adult bottle or a whole pediatric bottle).
- Do the treatment on one day, then x-ray the next to see how much was emptied (thats the goal, to completely empty the bowel).
- The procedure goes as follows (and the supplies are paid for by insurance and you can make saline at home). Use a rectal tube, dip it in the lube, insert it and attach the enteral feeding bag prefilled with the solution (make sure they prime the tube in the bag) and infuse all of the liquid then roll down the lock on the bag so no fluid runs back out. Pt holds it in for a minimum of ten minutes, then out comes the tube and the patient pushes the fluid/stool out.
- The goal is to only have to do the treatment once a day.
- Trial and error until you reach the right combo.
