Family Advisory Council - Purpose and Goals
Hospital Vision Statement
As South Carolina's premiere pediatric academic medical center and the region's only pediatric hospital, the
Children's Hospital at MUSC is dedicated to discovering better ways to care for the whole child and providing
compassionate, child and family-centered services in an environment that fosters innovation, collaboration and
excellence.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the MUSC Children's Hospital Family Advisory Council is to advocate for Family-Centered care concepts
and promote the principles of: respect and dignity, information sharing, participation, and collaboration.
MUSC Children's Hospital values input from patients and families and encourages them to participate in experiences
which enhance their control and independence.
The Council establishes a partnership between patients, families, and providers. In this informal forum families
are asked for input and advice. The hospital acknowledges that patients and families are those most affected by
patient care, the environment, and healthcare policies and procedures.
Goals
The goals of the Family Advisory Council are to:
- Establish a framework for collaboration between patients, families, and staff
- Promote the sharing of opinions and ideas from those familiar with the facility and its services.
- Provide the opportunity for families to influence decisions and policies which affect their well-being and patient care
