Blood Disorders : Sickle Cell Program

Our pediatric sickle cell program offers comprehensive services to patients diagnosed with a hemoglobinopathy. The sickle cell team consists of the following health care providers:

Pediatrician specializing in sickle cell disease
Pediatric hematologist
Nurse coordinator
Nurse community case manager
Social workers
Psychologist
Nutritionist
Representatives from other disciplines, as needed

The program also is actively involved in developing new therapies, including a clinical drug trial with Hydroxyurea and a bone marrow transplantation program for sickle cell disease, and participates in national trials such as the Preoperative Transfusion Study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
