Emergency Medicine
The Pediatric Emergency Department is South Carolina's only full-service pediatric emergency room. It is open 24 hours a day and is staffed by physicians specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine and nurses certified in pediatric life support. The pediatric emergency team has in-house experts in every pediatric subspecialty available to them at all times. Our 12-bed emergency department treats children that come in with everything from minor injuries to life threatening illnesses.
The emergency department is designed to create a child-friendly environment. Among the features are private patient rooms, each colorfully decorated to follow a different theme. We also have child life specialists on staff to help ease the fears of young patients and make them feel more comfortable.
