More Than $1.8 Million to Benefit MUSC Children's Hospital

On Saturday, June 3, MUSC Children's Hospital participated in its 23rd annual Children's Miracle Network Celebration Broadcast on WCSC TV-5. Hosted by on-air celebrities Bill Sharp and Debi Chard from the MUSC Harper Student Center, the CMN broadcast is held each year to thank national and local sponsors for their year round dedication to the hospital. More than $33,000 was raised in pledges during the ten hour event on Saturday. And more than $1.8 million was raised in 2005 through sponsor support of MUSC Children's Hospital.
"We really appreciate all of our sponsors and donors, the amount we received from individual phone calls during the broadcast were remarkable," said Dr. Lyndon Key, Professor and Chair Department of Pediatrics. "The Charleston-area community rallied together to help make a difference in the lives of so many children and we are so grateful to have been given so much love and support."
The 10 hour broadcast featured local stories of courageous young patients and their families, the physicians who treat them, and local CMN sponsors who raise money year round to support MUSC. All funds generated through the local broadcast stay with MUSC Children's Hospital. CMN is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.
The MUSC Children's Hospital is ranked as one of the top pediatric facilities in the country. The Charles P. Darby Children's Research Institute, opened in February of 2005, houses 150 state of the art laboratories where researchers look for the prevention, treatment and cures for illnesses like diabetes, hypertension and cancer. The Institute is one of 15 in the country and the only research center for children in the Carolinas.
