Kara Blevens, MD
Clinical Instructor
Medical Fragile Home
Dr. Blevens completed both her residency and internship at the Medical University of
South Carolina. She is currently working with Carolina Family Care, but the majority of
her duties will be in the provision care for the state-sponsored medically fragile
children's program. Her desire to "help those who cannot help themselves" is a great fit
for the pediatrics department.

Deborah Bowlby, MD
Assistant Professor
Endocrinology
Dr. Bowlby comes to MUSC Children's Hospital as an assistant professor in endocrinology. She
received her medical degree from the University of Toronto in Ontario. She completed her
residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes from
Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, New York. Dr. Bowlby is eager to provide
effective, innovative instruction based on evidence-based medicine and clinical
experience. Additionally, Dr. Bowlby is excited about the opportunity to live in Charleston.

Mary Ellen Cavalier, MD
Assistant Professor
Hematology/Oncology
Dr. Cavalier is relocating to Charleston from Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her medical degree
from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her fellowship in pediatric
hematology/oncology and pediatrics residency at Indiana University School of Medicine,
James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children.

Eric Graham, MD
Assistant Professor
Cardiology
Having recently completed both his residency and fellowship at the Medical University
of South Carolina, Dr. Graham will continue working in the Children's Hospital in the
Division of Pediatric Cardiology. His clinical interests include pediatric
cardiac critical care with special interest on the preoperative management of
neonates with single ventricle physiology. His research interests focus on
hypo plastic left heart syndrome and single ventricle patients. He has remained
at the Children's Hospital because of the excellent faculty and staff, the
new state-of-the art pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, and
the demonstrated commitment to pediatric cardiovascular research.

Kristina Gustafson, MD
Assistant Professor
General Pediatrics
Dr. Gustafson is currently the director of pediatric primary care at MUSC. She
received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois.
For the past few years, Dr. Gustafson has been with the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania
in a teaching affiliation with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, as well as a provider
in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
In 2002 she received an AAP CATCH planning grant, in which she proposed a Child
Life Curriculum Initiative to teach residents the skills to assess the developmental
and social needs of Crozer-Chester Medical Center's underserved patient population.

Patricia Hutchinson, MD
Assistant Professor
Adolescent Medicine
Dr. Hutchison joins our adolescent medicine division after 10 years of private practice
with Charleston Pediatrics. Dr. Hutchison graduated from MUSC in 1992 and completed
her residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has created an
educational program for girls and mothers and has also written a book, Girlology …A Girls
Guide to Stuff that Matters… that will be published in October 2005.

Dr. Hutchison will be seeing patients at the Children's Hospital in addition to an
off-campus clinic site in Mount Pleasant, the Girls2Women Health Center.

Andy Little, MD
Clinical Instructor
Chief Resident
Dr. Little completed his pediatrics residency training at MUSC in 2005. As
pediatric chief resident, he performs administrative duties and teaches residents
and medical students. Dr. Little is also seeing patients in the FasTrac/"Quick Care"
section of the pediatric emergency room at MUSC Children's Hospital. He graduated from the
Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, in his home state of North Carolina. Following
his chief year, he plans on a practice in general pediatrics. Andy and his wife,
an OB/GYN resident, are proud parents of twin boys.

Michelle Montalbano, MD
Assistant Professor
Pulmonology
Having recently completed a fellowship in allergy/immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
Dr. Montalbano provides allergy, asthma and immunology care in the Children's Lung, Asthma &
Allergy Center at the MUSC. She completed pediatric residency training at the University of
Oklahoma College of Medicine-Tulsa. Dr. Montalbano sees patients at the
Children's Hospital and in the Rutledge Tower outpatient clinics.
She particularly enjoys teaching patients, families, and medical personnel
about allergy/immunology. She serves on several national committees,
which has generated national recognition of allergy/immunology at MUSC Children's Hospital.

Sarah Taylor, MD
Assistant Professor
Neonatology
Dr. Taylor completed her neonatology fellowship in June 2005 at MUSC Children's Hospital.
She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine. In her role as assistant
professor, Dr. Taylor is looking forward to building on her foundation in neonatal
medicine with continued clinical challenges and involvement in decision-making at
both the individual patient and the MUSC Children's Hospital neonatal services level.

Ron Teufel, MD
Assistant Professor
General Pediatrics Hospitalist
Dr. Teufel is currently working as a pediatric hospitalist at the MUSC Children's Hospital.
Dr. Teufel graduated in 2000 from West Virginia University School of Medicine, then
completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at MUSC.
While a medical student at West Virginia University School of Medicine, his research
involved several projects in the field of virology and immunology.
For the past four years, he has been learning and working as a combined
internal medicine and pediatric resident. Dr. Teufel has a strong interest in
clinical research, particularly in addressing ways to improve inpatient
hospital services for patients and providers.

M. Olivia Titus, MD
Assistant Professor
Emergency Medicine
Having just completed a fellowship and residency at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Titus
will work with the Children's Hospital in the area of pediatric emergency care.
She sees patients from neonates to adolescents, in the pediatric emergency room and the
pediatric FasTrac/"Quick Care" clinic. Dr. Titus received her medical degree here at
MUSC and is excited about her return to Charleston.
