Rock(n)Research benefit raises money for CRI

MUSC Children's Hospital supporters and contributors gathered on a cold evening February 26 to celebrate the opening of the Charles P. Darby Children's Research Institute (CRI) and recognize benefactors and donors through this first annual rock(n)research event.

A stylish Dr. Charles P. Darby and wife, Joyce, make a “red carpet” entrance to Hibernian Society Hall. Sponsors for the gala event include Select Health of South Carolina, Northside Nissan, West Ashley Toyota and individual sponsors.    A total of 28 celebrity/artist-designed rocking horses from Angela Bassett, Manolo Blahnik, Dan Marino, Sharon Stone, Adam Sandler, Stuart Weitzman and the cast of Will and Grace were dusplayed. The pieces were up for auction during the Feb. 26 event.

Participants arrived in colorful, jazzy rock(n)red carpet attire at Hibernian Society Hall. The crowd of 350 people warmed to the music and dancing of The Pointer Sisters, sampled sumptuous cuisine from Lowcountry chefs and restaurants including High Cotton, 39 Rue de Jean, Oak Steakhouse, Basil Restaurant and Kaminsky's Most Excellent Café, plus participated in the rock(n)horse silent auction, which featured specially-designed miniature rocking horses by national celebrities and artists.

Proceeds raised from the event netted more than $80,000, with about $15,500 coming from the rock(n)horse silent auction.
