Children’s Hospital announces quarterly customer service shining star

MUSC Public Relations
February 17, 2006

The Children’s Hospital Kick It Up Group selected Kathie Chase, interim NNICU nurse manager, as this quarter’s winner representing the MUSC Value of Adaptability.

The Children’s Hospital continues to spotlight an employee each quarter that represents one of the MUHA values-respect, accountability, adaptability, excellence. This quarter’s value is adaptability.

Employees who demonstrate this value create and support a culture that makes constructive change happen. Adaptable employees demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and adapt to continuous change by being collaborative, creative and flexible.

When the NNICU staff was asked to nominate someone from their area who demonstrated this value, Chase’s name immediately came to everyone’s mind. In the past few months, she stepped up and went the extra mile. Chase is currently serving as the interim manager until the NNICU manager position can be filled. The staff comment on her willingness to come in on her day off and to work long hours to meet the needs of the staff. She addresses staff issues quickly and works well with other disciplines. She is always walking through the unit and checking on the staff to ensure that everyone has the help they need. As one employee said, “We should all be proud of her and the wonderful care she has given to the employees of the NNICU. That trickles down to the care we give our patients.”

Other nominees, who are also excellent examples of adaptable customer service, are: Lonnie Capers, Pediatric Ambulatory; Erin Hall, Child Life; Sheila Jones, 8D; Jennifer Logan, Phlebotomy; Janice Quinn, Pediatric Respiratory Therapy; Aundrea Salters, PCICU; Amelia Speer; Children’s Services; Lawrence Wiggins, Environmental Services.
