When To Go To Emergency Room
MUSC Health alternatives to the emergency room.
We are experiencing high volumes at our three After Hours locations and wait times may be longer. Our skilled nurses prioritize patients who need immediate help. Children who are sick but not in a crisis are seen in order of arrival. Please contact your pediatrician or consider virtual care to avoid long wait times. If your child is experiencing an emergency please go to your nearest emergency room or dial 9-1-1.
Please note X-ray services may be unavailable at our After Hours Care locations. Please call prior to visiting.
Working with pediatricians throughout the community in three different locations, MUSC Children’s Health provides after hours care to children from birth to seventeen years of age. Staffed by board-certified pediatricians, nurses and technicians, we provide care in a family-centered atmosphere that uses the most current, evidence-based practices to diagnose and treat your child.
We are open on weeknights, weekends and holidays. When faced with the choice of an expensive ED visit or a trip to an adult facility or urgent care center, MUSC Children’s Health should be your preferred choice for after-hours care.
Once your child has been treated and discharged, you return to your child’s primary care doctor for follow-up. This ensures continuity of care and communication between the primary care doctor and the after-hours physician.
For patients age 18 and older needing care, please visit the MUSC Health Emergency Department or see if one of these alternative locations is appropriate for your situation.
Please note: we do not offer blood draws or stitches at After Hours Care
